"When
tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers therefore are
the founders of human civilization" - Daniel Webster |

Ever since man started tilling the land to provide food, farmers have by default played an integral role in providing habitat for game and non-game species alike. This has, in turn, provided millions of hours of recreation for hunters and other wildlife enthusiasts.
Abundant game populations in many areas of the country are now inflicting serious damage to the crops farmers are struggling to produce. In most states farmers have the opportunity to reduce the numbers of deer seriously damaging their crops during the regular hunting seasons and through the use of deer management permits issued by their DNR or Wildlife Department. These permits typically enable farmers to harvest additional deer both during and outside of the normal hunting seasons.
Farmers experiencing significant crop damage are encouraged to contact their DNR or Wildlife Department to see if they are eligible to receive deer management permits. Harvesting additional deer assists in the preservation of crops AND provides a source of nutritious meat for the hungry at the same time!
