MD FHFH teams with other FHFH Chapters to send meat to the Gulf Coast

Maryland FHFH worked with FHFH chapters in several other states during November to send over 1.5 tons of elk and deer meat to the gulf coast for hurricane victims and relief workers. Over 1,200 pounds of venison was picked up at Food Resources, Inc. in Hagerstown on Monday, November 14th. This meat was added to a tractor trailer load of food and other supplies that originated at the Northern Arizona Food Bank. Food Bank Director (and Northern Arizona FHFH Coordinator) Kerry Ketchum organized the transportation with the help of Feed My People Children’s Charity. In addition to Arizona and Maryland, FHFH programs in Colorado, Kansas, Illinois and Ohio added meat to the truck for a total of just over 3,000 pounds. The meat was delivered to a relief operation in Biloxi, Mississippi run by International Spirit of Truth Ministries. The group operates a 40-foot mobile kitchen and had served over 230,000 meals to hurricane victims and relief workers as of mid-November. This hurricane relief effort marks the first time that multiple FHFH programs nationwide have worked together on a disaster relief project.
