Dear FHFH,
I am not your stereotypical hunter (23 years old, grew up in the suburbs, live in downtown Chicago, and work in a stuffy office job). However, every fall I venture out to revel in my new favorite fall pastime, thanks to my friend from college who introduced me to bowhunting three years ago. When my coworkers and bosses in my skyscraper office building ask what I am doing for my upcoming vacation, the look of slight disgust on their face when I say "I am going deer hunting" cracks me up. I love it because I immediately begin to educate them on the FHFH program and how many mouths it feeds every year. They are always surprised and impressed.
The FHFH program makes me extremely proud to be a hunter and I get so much enjoyment out of donating my meat every year. I was thinking that to extend that enjoyment in our great sport a "Follow your Deer" program could be potentially started. It would allow a hunter to know where his meat is being processed and which shelter it most likely is going to, allowing that hunter to volunteer in that shelter and see directly the great impact that the program is providing.
Just a thought, I apologize for the lengthy email, but thanks for everything you guys do. When I have kids of my own one day I will teach them to hunt and teach them the great opportunity FHFH allows hunters to provide for the less fortunate.
Thanks,
Alex |
