Subject: Night at Restaurant
My wife and I were sitting at a restaurant recently in Hendersonville
NC. A gentleman, sitting next to us, looked familiar so I told him he
looked like someone we had met in Ashville and we began a
conversation. As we talked I learned that he was a hunter and so with
much enthusiasm I told him about our new chapter with FHFH. He looked
at me and said “I know an honest face when I see one” and then
proceeded to dig into his pocket for something. Well that “something”
turned out to be a hundred dollar bill that he wanted to donate to our
organization! I told him that I wasn’t comfortable taking his cash and
he said, “If you don't take it now you probably won't get it.” I said,
“If you’ll give me your address I will send you some information about
the program and if you still feel like contributing you can send me a
check made out to FHFH.” He agreed went back to eating.
After finishing his dinner he turned to me and said, “I've been
thinking about this--you be sure to send me that info ok?” I told him
I would and then we talked some more. He explained that he used to
make small contributions here and there and to his church until one
day when something hit him and he decided to up the ante. As the owner
and operator of a decent little transmission shop, he started giving
more and more of his money to the church and the needy. As he did this
his business began to grow and grow to the point where he says the
entire yard is FULL of cars ALL the time! He told me that he gives
away 80-90% of his income and it keeps coming back! Two weeks later we
received a check for two hundred dollars—all because we wanted to go
out for a burger that night!
Sincerely, Lance and Valerie
