![]() A new policy urges the nation's pediatricians to screen kids for food insecurity during regular well-child visits. An estimated 7.9 million kids in the U.S. live in "food-insecure" households. This means there's not always enough to eat at home. But when these kids go to the doctor for a checkup, or a well-child visit, the signs of malnutrition are not always apparent. So pediatricians say it's time to start asking about it. The Western MD FHFH Chapter held their annual Fundraising Banquet and Auction on Friday, October 2nd at Tri-State Fellowship Church in Hagerstown. The event was a great success with around 260 people from the MD, PA, and WV area attending.
Individuals and families attending enjoyed a buffet style meat donated by Outback Steakhouse of Hagerstown. A large silent and live auction provided folks with many great items to bid on. A MD update of the impact and financial needs for FHFH was shared with those in attendance. Additionally, Allan Ellis of the MD Hunting Coalition attended and shared a brief update from the perspective of the MHC on hunting in MD and encouraged folks in attendance to support FHFH. Thankfully, the event was able to raise just over $13,000 in critical support needed to help ensure the hunters of MD will be able to donate deer for as long as possible this fall. Thanks to all those who attended and made this a great evening to help the needy of MD! |
