The story of FHFH began with one woman, desperate to load a battered buck she found alongside the road into her car to help feed her hungry family. Where most of us would see road kill, she saw meat for her children. That deer was a blessing she couldn’t afford to waste.
Seeing her car stopped on the shoulder, Rick Wilson - my Dad - pulled over to offer assistance. At her request, he helped load the deer into the trunk of her car and she drove away. Both heartbreaking and inspiring, her determination to feed her kids made a lasting impact on him.
Dad believed that no one should have to use deer killed by cars on the road to feed their children. He remembered that Jesus once said, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" (Matthew 25:40). And he knew the Lord was calling him - a father and lifelong hunter - to help hunters and farmers feed hungry children and families.

Dad began his new ministry through our local church in 1997 with the help and faithful support of Pastor Ray Shriver. That fall they raised enough money to pay for the processing of 26,200 servings of meat from deer donated by local hunters to feed the hungry of our county.
Now 25 years later, Dad’s vision of bringing farmers and hunters together to fight hunger has grown across America. We have local volunteer coordinators and participating butcher shops in 20 different states dedicated to ending hunger. Since those humble beginnings in 1997 God has used FHFH to provide more than 21.5 million servings of meat to the needy!

We are so grateful for the countless individual hunters, supporters, volunteers, meat processors, businesses, churches, other organizations, and food banks who partner with us to provide meat and hope to those who are hungry. Without this support the ministry of FHFH would not be possible.
